Yet outside the scientific community, its importance and potential remain widely unfamiliar. To help change that, OceanX is partnering with the Institute of International Education (IIE) to launch the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iie.org\/programs\/oceanfuturesfellowship\/\">Ocean Futures Fellowship<\/a>, a new initiative designed to expand ocean literacy and empower the next generation of ocean innovators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Designed to support professional development at the intersection of science and emerging media, the program connects Fellows with collaborative, real-world educational projects and monthly mentorship and leadership development workshops. Fellows will work with OceanX researchers and ocean experts across a range of regions and disciplines, joining a growing network of early-career ocean science researchers and reporters, and will culminate in a relevant and timely capstone project.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-iie-cta\">\n\t\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center has-h-3-font-size\">Applications Open Through May 3, 2026<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-16018d1d wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-with-arrow\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.iie.org\/programs\/oceanfuturesfellowship\/\">Learn more<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications are open now through May 3rd, 11:59 PM U.S. Eastern Time. OceanX and IIE are seeking early-career professionals equipped and excited to translate ocean science into story-driven solutions. Bachelor\u2019s degree holders in marine biology, climate or environmental sciences, journalism or media studies, AI and machine learning, nonprofit management, finance, and other related fields are eligible to apply. The next cohort will be placed in various focus areas, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>AI&nbsp;\u2013 Design and apply multimodal AI systems in collaboration with OceanX teams to accelerate ocean science insights and deliver impactful exploration and conservation stories.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Digital Correspondent \u2013 Communicate ocean science and conservation through journalism, storytelling, and digital platforms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Digital Asset Archives \u2013 Support media, science, and production teams to organize, maintain, and enhance access to OceanX\u2019s growing media archive.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Immersive Media \u2013 Use technology, such as virtual reality, augmented reality, game design, and UX\/UI, to engage audiences with ocean exploration and education.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Partnerships \u2013 Support the establishment and continuation of relationships that support ocean health.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marketing and Communications \u2013 Assist with planning and executing strategic, cross\u2011channel campaigns while gaining experience in content creation, digital communications, and collaborative project work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Prospective applicants should review the full eligibility requirements and other information on the Ocean Futures Fellowship <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iie.org\/programs\/oceanfuturesfellowship\/\">website<\/a>. The program is full-time, remote, and lasts six months (June \u2013 December 2026). Fellows receive a monthly stipend and have the possibility to travel to board the OceanXplorer vessel to observe and document cutting-edge research firsthand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis fellowship represents a powerful investment in emerging talent at the intersection of science and communication,\u201d said Jason Czyz, President and CEO of IIE. \u201cWe are honored to partner with OceanX to implement the Ocean Futures Fellowship.
